John Dau of Syracuse, NY, one of the principal subjects of the Sundance award-winning documentary about the Lost Boys of Sudan, God Grew Tired of Us, and author of the book by the same name, arrived in Fargo to encourage and raise awareness for his close friend, Joseph Akol Makeer, during our enormously successful fundraising weekend for African Soul, American Heart. John was accompanied by his cousin, Jacob Malu Kuai of Lansing Michigan. These three young men grew up together in the village of Duk Payuel in Duk County, Sudan, endured and survived the walks to Ethiopia and Kenya, then supported each other through the many years they lived at Kakuma Refugee camp in Northern Kenya.
